Careers
I want to work in a school that could be described as a community
of learners, a place where students and adults alike are engaged as active
learners in matters of special importance to them and where everyone is
thereby encouraging everyone else's learning.

Other Important Information

- As a charter school FLI can hire a small number of uncertified teachers each year. However, NYS permanent certification is strongly preferred.
Characteristics of a FLI Teacher
FLI teachers…
- Seek pedagogical expertise above all else.
- Buy into a school-wide identity and believe they are responsible, not just for their class, but for the larger community.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure consistency and continuity for instruction within a grade and from one grade to another.
- Believe behavior is taught and find a balance between the social curriculum and the academic curriculum.
- Believe it is their responsibility to foster student independence and school values.
- Believe it is their responsibility to communicate regularly with families.
- Understand that teaching responsibilities don’t fall into narrow parameters and often go “above and beyond.”
