Parental involvement is critical to ensure student success. FLI believes that successful parental involvement depends on both the sharing of information and clear, mutual expectations. Parents participate in their children's educational experience through the following activities:
Before the beginning of each school year, FLI hosts a “Back to School Night” for all parents/guardians. This event enables families to meet school staff, ask questions, and learn about priorities and programs for the new year. New parents also attend a “New Parent Orientation” which introduces them to FLI’s curriculum, core values and philosophical approach.
Each Sunday the Head of School uses an automated telephone broadcast system to share information with parents about the upcoming week.
Student progress is formally discussed twice per year during FLI parent/teacher conferences.
FLI's "Weekly Report" system shares information about students' academic progress, attendance, homework, behavior and social growth.
FLI’s Friday FLI-er is a weekly newsletter that shares grade-level or school-related information, provides health and wellness tips and offers calendar updates.
Twice per month, FLI's Head of School hosts a breakfast for all parents who want to discuss any issues in an informal setting.
Workshops on a wide variety of topics are offered at least once per month.
Once per month parents and students are invited to a Family Dinner Night that enables them to enjoy a free nutritious meal, learn recipes and other helpful information, and observe cooking demos.
FLI Charter School's full-time Parent Coordinator is accessible to parents throughout the school day and is responsible for maintaining clear lines of communication between the school and home.
